Former Smoky Andrew Cashner will make a rehab appearance at Smokies Park this week as he tries to work his way back to the Cubs lineup.
Cashner was impressive in his debut, giving up one run on two hits with two strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. He left the game with a strained rotator cuff back on April 5 and is recovering from that injury.
Here is more on Cashner's appearance from the Tennessee Smokies:
The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce today that Cubs Pitcher Andrew Cashner is tentatively scheduled to join the Smokies during their upcoming homestand against Chattanooga. Cashner is recovering from a strained right rotator cuff and is tentatively scheduled to play at Smokies Park on Tuesday.
Prior to his heading to the disabled list on April 5, Cashner started one game for the Cubs going 5.2 innings allowing one run on two hits, while striking out two.
Cashner is no stranger to East Tennessee, having spent parts of the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the Smokies. In 18 starts with Tennessee, Cashner held a 6-5 record with a 3.16 ERA.
The 24-year-old was selected by the Cubs in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
