Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla extended his career-high hitting streak to 28 games with a two-out single in the eighth inning of Sunday's 6-5 victory over the New York Mets.
Uggla, who finished 1-for-5, has the longest active hit streak in the majors and matched Marquis Grissom (1996) for the third longest in Atlanta Braves history.
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, however, went 0-for-4 to halt his personal-best hitting streak at 20 games. Freeman's streak was the second- longest in franchise history for a rookie. Alvin Dark hit in 23 straight for the Boston Braves in 1948.
The last team that had two streaks of 20-plus games at the same time was the 1980 Texas Rangers -- Al Oliver and Mickey Rivers.
