A downed powerline and standing water forced some parents to take an alternate route to Hardin Valley Academy Wednesday.

Some parents thought the school should have been called off altogether due to the weather.

"It's very frustrating. You would think we've not lost any days due to bad weather, they have plenty of days built up, and for them to have something like this and not cancel school, I think is a little unreasonable," said parent Marsha Cosey.

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre says there's a lot of facts that go into deciding whether or not to close school. You can watch our entire interview with him in which he describes the school closing process in the video at the top of this story.
