The lack of good-paying jobs is the number one issue for East Tennesseans according to Plan East Tennessee.
PlanET surveyed residents in Anderson, Blount, Knox, Loundon and Union counties to measure the challenges and opportunities facing the region and the priorities for future growth.
Nearly 52 percent of respondents said the lack of good paying jobs is a "major problem."
Responders said manufacturing and science/technology jobs are the most important types of jobs to attract to the region. About one third of residents said the best way to do that is providing educational programs.
The survey also shows high-quality public schools are the most important factors when choosing a place to live, as well as being within a 30-minute drive to work.
