Anderson County High School took on bitter rival Campbell County High
School in a baseball game Wednesday night. However, the game was
different than most.
Students at Anderson High School are still thinking about five friends who were injured in a car wreck on Andersonville Pike Tuesday. Those students' names are below:
Chad Bieckert - critical
Brenna Elise Moore - critical
Vance Berrier - stable
Karla Carrol - discharged
Tyler Hicks - family not releasing information on condition
Hicks plays baseball for Anderson County. Many players and fans had him on their minds during the game.
"It was good to get on the field," said Anderson County Head Baseball Coach Ben Downs. "I know Tyler wanted us to get on the field."
Students at both schools have been doing their part to help the Anderson County Five. TJ Marlow, of Anderson County High School was collecting money at the game for t-shirts that read "#AC5". That is the phrase people are using on Twitter to refer to the crash victims.
On the back of those shirts are the words: tough, valiant, brilliant and courageous.
"It was the number one trending thing in East Tennessee," he said.
Students from Campbell County also showed their support for the Anderson County Five. They made a banner that read #AC5 and brought it to the game.
"They would do the same for us," said Campbell County student Whitney Sawyer.
Anderson County beat Campbell County 12-2, but that didn't really matter to players and fans. Most were hopeful the five crash victims would just get well soon.
"Just win one for them," said Valerie Newman, parent of a Anderson County High School student.
