Folks in Alcoa have a few new traffic signs to watch out for.
Over the past week, the Alcoa Police Department has added new speed enforcement signs to the existing speed limit signs. They show the speed limit with the words "speed limit electronically enforced" at the bottom.
These signs have sprung up on Pellissippi Parkway, Alcoa Highway and near US-129.
But the Alcoa Police Department say there are no new electronic devices being used to measure your speed.
"As far as an electronic speed measuring device, all we have are the radar units and the laser units that we have in the patrol cars and the motorcycles," explained Lt. David Carswell. "We don't actually have traffic enforcement, cameras or anything like that that are posted anywhere within the city.
Lieutenant Carswell also said that he hopes these new signs will make people glance down at their speedometer and slow down, instead of getting a ticket.
