Gambling casinos in Kentucky have cleared a legislative hurdle, and Governor Steve Beshear says it's about time.
"As it stands, we might as well be backing trucks up to the Ohio River and dumping our money into the water," he said. "We need to keep that money right here at home."
A senate committee approved the gambling bill by a 7-4 vote Wednesday.
This is the first time a casino gambling bill has made it this far.
The bill now goes to the full senate for consideration.
Horse gambling has long been a Kentucky tradition, but casino gambling has not.
