Nothing says summer more than a pool. So an indoor pool can be the perfect place to beat the winter-time blues.

A place in Maryville offers swim parties and scuba lessons.

Ethan White hosted a pool party for his eighth birthday. He invited his friends to join him at Rhea's Diving in Maryville.

"My mom told me to," Ethan said with a laugh.

His mother, Michelle White, explained why it was a good choice for the party.

"There's not a lot to do outside, especially in Maryville. And he really likes swimming and his kids, his friends, like swimming and it's a good thing for them to do. It's healthy, it keeps them inside where they're safe," she said.

Splashing, diving, and a little football made for a good time on a cold day.

"We have scuba classes going and then the pool parties also to where you can get inside because it doesn't matter if it's storming or anything. It's something the whole family can do," Rhea's Diving Manager Bradley Forsythe said.

Forsythe said the scuba classes travel to warmer places this time of year for outdoor dives but they can still practice in the indoor pool.

"We teach anything from beginning SCUBA through trimix full cave all certifications that have to do with SCUBA diving," Forsythe said.

Ethan and his friends enjoyed the break from more sedentary indoor winter activities. It was a chance to get wet but stay warm.

"It sort of gives the kids something to do to be able to get in the pools until the pools open in the springtime," Forsythe said.

Ahh, springtime. It starts officially four weeks from today but the kids at the swimming party were getting an early start.

Michelle White said, "This is something they don't get to do every day during the winter so it's fun to do something different."
