Early voting begins this week, and while the Republican presidential primary is getting a lot of attention, there are a number of important local races on the ballot, including four Knox Co. school board seats.
On Friday, the Knoxville Chamber released the responses to a questionnaire it gave to all of the school board candidates.
Garrett Wagley from the Knoxville Chamber says the school board is important because that is where decisions are made that affect the entire community.
There are four school board seats on the ballot this year.
- In District 2, Indya Kincannon is running uncontested.
- The candidates in District 3 are Bobby Edington, Doug Harris and Gina Oster.
- The candidates in District 5 are Karen Carson and Elaine Davis.
- The candidates in District 8 are Mike McMillan and Conley Underwood.
Wagley says all of the candidates responded to the Knoxville Chamber questionnaire and the answers were across the board. He says some folks really want to focus on technology, others want to dig into the budget, and others think some changes need to be made in the classroom.
