An autopsy has confirmed that a 25-year-old pregnant woman who was found dead in her apartment Tuesday was murdered.
The Knoxville Police Department says that Brittany Caroline Eldridge was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she was killed. Her mother found her body in her apartment after Eldridge didn't show up for work.
Police are conducting several interviews about the murder. No arrests have been made. Investigators are not releasing information about how Eldridge died.
Police have not released the identity of the 25-year-old woman, but we do know she was 8 and a half months pregnant.
When she didn't show up for work at Clayton Homes in Maryville, her boss called her mother to check on her. Her mother found her dead in the bedroom of her apartment around noon.
Police said it appears to be suspicious and they are investigating the incident as a homicide.
The Cross Creek Community was very concerned that this happened in their apartments.
Her next door neighbor said she was always very friendly and he is saddened by the tragic nature of her death. "I generally feel like these are pretty safe apartments. and if foul play is suspected, it's surprising. She was very young, very healthy. she was a very quiet neighbor, very respectful in that sense," said Hunter Fox.
The Human Resources Director at her employer said she was a member of the Clayton Homes family for more than three years. They released a statement which said, "The loss is tragic. We will be here to support her family in this challenging time. She was a good employee and well liked."
Officials are still waiting on confirmation from the medical examiner before releasing the woman's identity.

Officials are now investigating a death of a woman at an apartment complex as a homicide.
According to a release from the Knoxville Police Department, the 25-year-old female did not show up for work on Tuesday morning.
The victim's employer called her mother and requested she check on the daughter. Once the mother arrived at Cross Creek Apartments off of Western Avenue, she found her daughter dead in the bedroom.
Officials said the death is suspicious and they are investigating it as a homicide.
The body was taken to the forensic center where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said the victim was around 8 and a half months pregnant.
Investigators are interviewing several individuals and attempting to notify the victim's next of kin. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.
