The first thing you need to know is my last name is pronounced "Beu-TAIR-rah." A lot of people have trouble with saying it (including my coworkers at 10News, but don't tell them I told you that).

I'm a multimedia journalist & reporter for 10News NightBeat and the Ten O'Clock News for Fox43. I joined WBIR-TV in April 2010.

For six years, I was a reporter and weekend anchor/producer at WDTV, the CBS affiliate in my hometown of Bridgeport, W.Va. (seriously, the studios are three minutes away from my parents' house). I started reporting at the ripe old age of 17, following a high school internship.  I guess they were desperate.

During my tenure at WDTV, I worked on my bachelors and master's degrees at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University. There would be days I would go from a city council meeting, jump in a station car and head to an econ class. Add to that, I was a news director and an adjunct professor in college. My friends would vouch for the gratuitous amounts of caffeine and very little sleep I had then. Really, who in college actually has a normal sleep cycle?

Here's where the boss tells me I'm supposed to brag: I managed to pick up some national awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation in 2007, 2008 and 2009. I've also filed reports for KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh and ABC News, and was featured on The Weather Channel and MSNBC.

If I'm not lugging a camera or calling officials after hours, you can sometimes catch me on the ice. I played hockey religiously growing up, and try to get in on a game every so often (if you ever see a missing tooth on air- you'll probably know what happened). I also dabble in photography, play some disc golf, and try and catch some live shows at the Bijou. I'm quickly learning to become a Vol fan as well- but I warn you, there will be weekends I'll don the Mighty T and the Flying WV at the same time!

Now that you've read though this, check out my (mis)adventures in reporting by following my Facebook (facebook.com/stevebutera), Twitter (twitter.com/swbutera), and blog (stevebutera.com).

Again, my last name is pronounced "Beu-TAIR-rah."
